Mechanical Engineering Program Earns Accreditation

Electrical Engineering Program is also Accredited

Texas A&M University-Texarkana announced that its undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree has been accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The accreditation, retroactive to October 2021, is valid through 2029. Accredited programs must go through a rigorous reaffirmation process every ten years.

What Does This Accreditation Mean for the University and their Students?

ABET is a nonprofit organization that accredits college programs in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields at various degree levels. For over 80 years, ABET has upheld high standards to ensure students graduate with skills ready for the global workforce.

Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M Texarkana

Dr. Melinda Arnold the A&M-Texarkana Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs said in a press release,

With ABET accreditation, students and employers can be confident that A&M-Texarkana’s Engineering programs meet and exceed the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to excel in today’s workforce.

Texas A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander stated that A&M Texarkana graduates leave the university knowing they receive a world-class education, and those skills will be sought after by employers.

The Mechanical Engineering program now joins the university’s Electrical Engineering program in receiving ABET accreditation. The Electrical Engineering degree was first accredited in 2014 and had its accreditation reaffirmed in 2024.
