The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate a two vehicle accident that claimed the life of an infant in Northeast Texas near Texarkana.

Troopers responded to a crash on US 82, in Hooks, Texas.

Authorities say a vehicle driven by 25 year old Shakeem Devon Hayes of Hooks, Texas, was traveling west on US 82 when he crossed into the east bound lane of the highway, striking an eastbound vehicle.

Hayes was transported to Christus St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana, where he was treated and released with minor injures. Authorities say unfortunately a male infant passenger in the vehicle was transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, and later died from his injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, 77 year old Rebecca Williams Schutte of Hooks, was transported to the hospital with incapacitating injuries but was listed in stable condition. .

The DPS says this is an ongoing investigation, and that no additional information is available at this time.
