Texas Surges Past Previous Records In Jobs and Labor Force

For Texas and Texans, this is what winning looks like, as the state continues to lead the nation in job creation, setting new records for employment and labor force participation, according to May 2025 data released by the Texas Workforce Commission on Friday, June 20.

Governor Greg Abbott announced today that Texas has reached all-time highs in the number of people working, the size of its labor force, and total nonfarm jobs. Over the past 12 months, the state has added 213,300 nonfarm jobs, outpacing the national growth rate.

“The most important measure of Texas’ economic momentum is the number of Texans working,” Governor Abbott said, crediting the state’s business-friendly climate, skilled workforce, and diverse industries for continued growth.

Key figures from the May report include:

• A record-high labor force of 15,839,400 Texans.
• A record number of employed Texans, including the self-employed, at 15,192,300.
• A new high of 14,340,800 total nonfarm jobs, with 28,100 added in May alone.

Governor Greg Abbott Celebrates Other Major Wins:

• Texas received its 12th Gold Shovel Award for excellence in job creation and capital investment.
• He signed new laws to cut red tape, support small businesses, and provide long-term property tax relief.
• The state approved its largest investment in water infrastructure to date.

Abbott said these milestones reflect Texas’ ongoing commitment to building an even stronger economy for future generations.
