
TV Host & Space Expert Coming to Texarkana’s Perot Theatre
Learn about our galaxy just in time before the 2024 total eclipse as the Texarkana Regional Arts & Humanities Council welcomes the popular public television host from Janet's Planet and science educator Janet Ivey to the Perot Theatre in March.
Coming on March 26 you can see Janet’s Planet: A Tour Through the Solar System. Even though Ivey's TV show Janet's Planet is a great and acclaimed program for kids this night will be focused on adults, middle school and high school students.
In the series Janet’s Planet, she uses the arts to help people understand complex topics relating to space and our solar system.
Not only will Ivey talk about the wonders of our galaxy, she will also talk about some of the scientific aspects of the upcoming solar eclipse that Texarkana will be experiencing on Monday, April 8.
The show will according to a press release,
Blending humor, theatre, and visuals, Captain Janet makes complex science accessible. In A Tour Through the Solar System, she takes audiences on a cosmic journey, exploring the sun and each planet in our solar system.
TRAHC Executive Director Jennifer Unger stated in a press release,
This community has the unique opportunity to experience a total solar eclipse—there won’t be another total solar eclipse in the continental United States until 2044. Bringing Janet ahead of the eclipse gives the public an opportunity to learn more about this natural phenomenon from a dynamic educator and performer.
Janet has received some amazing awards including 12 Regional Emmys and 5 Gracie Allen Awards for her children’s series Janet’s Planet. She is also the American Astronomical Society’s 2023 recipient of the Sally K Ride Excellence in Education Award.
