Country music's biggest night was last night with the CMA Awards and everyone was asking, "Who is this Chris Stapleton?" "Where did this guy come from and why haven't I heard of him before?"

If that was you last night, have no fear. You were not alone. A few months back when the nominations came out we were wondering the same thing. We checked out his videos on YouTube but still really didn't know anything about him. Turns out he's a very well known songwriter who has been kickin' around Nashville for a good 15 years. He's written six number one songs including Kenny Chesney's "Never Wanted Nothing More,"  Darius Rucker's "Come Back Song" and  "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" by George Strait.

He's also listed as co-writer for Luke Bryan's song "Drink a Beer" and Thomas Rhett's "Crash and Burn."

According to Wikipedia:

As a songwriter, over 150 of Stapleton's songs have appeared on albums by such artists as Adele, Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley.[4] He has co-written with notable artists like Vince Gill, Peter Frampton and Sheryl Crow.

He no stranger to the Grammy Awards either.

From 2008 to 2010, Stapleton was the lead singer and guitarist of the bluegrass band The SteelDrivers. In 2009, The SteelDrivers won an International Bluegrass Music Association Award for "Emerging Artist of the Year." In 2010, The SteelDrivers were nominated for three Grammy Awards including Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for the songs "Blue Side of the Mountain" and "Where Rainbows Never Die", as well as Best Bluegrass Album for Reckless. Stapleton left The SteelDrivers in April 2010

Now you know a little more about Chris. Last night after the show I saw he was trending on Facebook. Loads of people were in awe of his talent. But what struck me were the people saying how he would "save country music" as a genre. With all the songs he's written maybe that's what he's been doing for the past 15 years along with all the other great song writers in Nashville . . . .

Good Morning! It's Jim and Lisa's Question of the Day!The CMA's went down last night and there is a lot of talk about...

If you missed Chris' performance with Justin Timberlake last night that everyone was talking check it out below.

Now the funny thing to me is this Fox News report below. The headline is "Chris Stapleton Stuns CMA Awards with Best Male Vocalist Win" but when they actually start talking about the performance, it's all about Justin Timberlake. Now that is funny. See, even Fox News is a little confused as to who Chris Stapleton is so really don't feel too bad that we didn't either. ;)
