Area residents can enjoy a special performance this Saturday evening at Arkansas High School in Texarkana.

The AHS Redline will present Let’s Dance the Night Way. The evening of performance will showcase the drill team’s talents and feature the North Heights Junior High School Razorettes. The event will take place in the Arkansas High School Student Union this Saturday May 7. Admission is $5 and is open to the public.

On Thursday May 12,  the Washington Academy Charter School their 2016 Spring Commencement Ceremony. The commencement exercise will be conducted at Church of The Living God, which is located at 928 Laurel Street. Texarkana Arkansas Mayor Ruth Penny Bell will deliver the challenge to graduates during the ceremony.

Also, congratulations to Arkansas High student Lauryn Bocox, who won the state of Arkansas Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest. Lauren also won in the South Central Division which means she is advancing to the national competition. The South Central Division includes, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas.

Lauryn participated in the essay contest through the Arkansas High AP United States History course taught by her instructor Nancy Huddleston.
