A California native, I’ve lived on both coasts and lots of places in between. As a result, I’m pretty liberal in my viewpoints on life, have gathered a wide array of friends from vastly different backgrounds, and learned just how similar all of us really are as mankind. That’s why you’ll discover my stories tend to celebrate everyday people, their accomplishments and the amazing things they do to enrich their communities. When I’m not reporting or editing, I enjoy traveling, listening to great music, cooking up yummy eats and devouring smart books including suspense fiction and classics like my all-time favorite, Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ I love teaching, mentoring and working with young people. But my real passion is philanthropy, particularly when it comes to charities that help at-risk kids, the arts, literacy and nature conservation. I currently live with my wife in New England.

Who Is the Most (In)Famous Family in Texas?
As we’ve visited various communities on our small town tour, we’ve introduced you to some of the founding fathers who first settled the region. But our next family nee
Volunteer Firefighters Brave the Fire in Parker, Texas
The ranch is eerily quiet and horridly hot, even if it is after midnight on an August night. Suddenly the silence is shattered by the sounds of nervous livestock, fighting to get free from the restraints of the barn walls. Looking out the window, your heart stops as flames leap in the distance, gaining momentum as they spread across the dry grasslands you live on. With so much at stake, who are yo

The Origin of Dalby Springs
American History courses usually cover states and events in broad strokes, hitting only the highlights. When we dig a little deeper though, we quickly discover there is nothing average about those who came before us.
Faith Runs Deep at Dalby Springs
As I’ve traveled across the Ark-La-Tex, it is increasingly evident how important religion and God are in the lives of local residents. This is also true in a little community called Dalby Springs, just 11 miles south of Dekalb on the western side of Bowie County.

Creating a Legacy at Ramage Farms
For many, Ramage Farms is synonymous with the thick steaks or mouthwatering barbecue their restaurants used to serve up. On Oct. 5, 2011, however, the Hooks restaurant burned to the ground when a grease fire started in the barbecue pit. Since then, residents, customers and old family friends have wondered if Brent Ramage would rebuild and start all over again.
