Here we go again, we say goodbye to Daylight Savings Time and go back to Standard Time this weekend, but will this time be our last 'Fall Back' to standard time in Arkansas?

First of all, our time will "Fall" back one hour this weekend. So before you go to bed Saturday night set your clock back one hour and enjoy that extra hour any way you want. Stay up later or get an extra hour of sleep. The official time change is at 2 AM Sunday morning.

A lot of people hate changing the clock in the spring to Daylight Savings Time and then back to Standard Time again in the fall.

Weren't We Supposed to Stay in Daylight Saving Time All Year?

Remember the 2023 Sunshine Protection Act? This was a bill that was supposed to keep the entire country on Daylight Savings Time. So what happened?

According to Foxweather.com;

 The U.S. Senate unanimously approved the bill this past March, but it did not pass in the House, so it didn’t make it to President Joe Biden’s desk for his signature.

The bill is currently in limbo, according to Congress’ website.

Why Didn't The House Pass The Sunshine Protection Act?

As for the reasons the House didn't pass it was because of more important matters like the budget deficit and the war in the Ukraine. So we will just have to wait and see. There are now 19 states that say they would support staying in Day Light Saving Time. Surprisingly Arkansas and Texas are not on that list.

  Was Arkansas Thinking about Staying in Daylight Savings Time?

And as for Arkansas if you remember back in December of last year 2022,  Arkansas State Representative Johnny Rye of Trumann, AR, proposed that the state of Arkansas go ahead and make Daylight Savings Time a permanent thing even if the US didn't.  But, he must have had second thoughts because in January of this year, the proposed bill was quietly withdrawn for 'further study'.

Personally, I love the time changes. In the Spring it reminds me of the excitement as a kid that Summer is on its way and the older I get the Fall time change lets me get into my pajamas earlier and hibernate.
