Drive the Arkansas Wine Country Trail With Stunning Fall Colors
California is known as a wine country you hear that all the time but do you know Arkansas has become known as a wine country too?
Arkansas is the oldest and largest wine producer and grape juice maker in the southern United States. Visitors come from all parts of the country to indulge in some of the best award-winning wines in the state.
Now is the perfect time to take a wine tour and drive through some of the most beautiful countryside and mountains during the fall season. Typically late October and November are the peak months for taking those scenic drives to enjoy the captivating fall foliage.
The heart of wine country starts in Altus, around 2 hours west of Little Rock, just off I-40. While in Altus take in some unique antique shops, a coal miner's museum, and a charming city park in the town square.
Follow the wine tour map and head to Post Winery, Wiederkehr Wine Cellars, Mount Bethel Winery, and Chateau Aux Arc all located in Altus.
Each wine tour offers free wine samples and some have gift shops where you can purchase the wine to take home. Other stops may include a restaurant an RV Park, or a bed and breakfast inn that will make you feel as though you are in a Hallmark movie.
One of the best places to have a romantic dinner is at the Wiederkehr Wine Cellars. The home of the original hand-dug wine cellar that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and boasts Swiss and Continental cuisine.
One of the most charming bed and breakfast inns in the state can be found in the towns of Ozark and Clarksville. The Villa at Chateau Aux Arc has a guest house of Chateau Aux Arc winery where you can walk to the vineyards and enjoy some wines in the tasting room. Another bed and breakfast inn Cowie Wine Cellars can be found in nearby Paris, Arkansas. I mean what would a town named Paris be without some wine right?
Last but not least you have to make a stop at the Post Vineyards winery a 5th-generation family tradition of winemakers that has been making a variety of wines for decades.
