These videos are the most recent taken at the shelter. If you have recently lost your dog or cat, the shelter is the first place you should check. These dogs are in the holding pens and a couple on the adoption floor.

The puppies pressing their noses through the fence is so sweet yet so heartbreaking at the same time. There is a hound dog in one of the videos that is just so excited to have someone to talk to her and pet her. Please honor these dogs by watching their videos and sharing them on your Facebook pages to help spread the word and maybe get a few rescued and adopted this weekend.

New dogs at the animal shelter in Texarkana in waiting to be reclaimed or to be moved to the adoption floor. Call the shelter immediately at 870-773-6388 if you recognize any of these dogs as your missing pet:

Stray dogs that are picked up by animal control officers are taken to the Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Arkansas. This is the only animal shelter that we have in Texarkana. The shelter is operated by the City of Texarkana, Arkansas. The stray dogs are held for a short period of time in the holding kennels in hopes that the owners will come to the shelter and claim their missing dog.

When a stray dog is not reclaimed by its owner, it can be moved to the adoption floor when open kennels are available. Because of extreme overcrowding, often times the dogs do not make it on to the adoption floor so it is very important that you physically go to the shelter to look for your missing dog and go often. The shelter only holds strays for three to five days. Once that hold period is up, the dog may be put to sleep. That means you could be on vacation and come back to find your dog got out, was picked up by animal control and was euthanized after the hold time expired.

It is important to have your pet microchipped so officers can contact you if your pet escapes from your yard. It is less than $20 to get your pet microchipped at the shelter and register it online so you will be contacted if he is picked up. It is also very important that you spay and neuter your pets to prevent the urge to wander beyond the confines of your home.

If you are missing a pet you should physically go to the shelter and go often to look for the pet. The shelter is located at 203 Harrison, Texarkana, Ark. You can also follow them on Facebook: Animal Care and Adoption Center. Calling the shelter is not enough. You must be there to put eyes on the dogs and cats to make sure it isn't your pet. Often times the description the owner provides does not fit what the pet looks like at the shelter. It is also good advice to have your pet microchipped and register the chip with your current phone numbers as well as an emergency number. I found a dog that had a chip and the owners had given up on finding her and even listed the pet as deceased after not finding her for 10 months. She made it to my rescue and then made it back to her owners all because of a little microchip inserted under the skin.

My best advice to get your lost pet back: Please be sure to have your pets spayed and neutered, make sure they are microchipped and keep a collar on them too with your information securely on the collar. Also follow the many lost and found Facebook pages to help folks find their babies. All the details and links to those pages are in the story below:
