You Haven’t Lived in Texarkana Until . . . .
I was born and raised in Texarkana and have been a lifelong resident for much of my life. I started my radio career here when I was in high school and landed my first radio gig at our sister station KOSY 790AM. Moved away in 1990 for another radio job in Hot Springs but returned in 2001 when my mom became ill. But during my time in Texarkana I've had so many great memories and moments.
That's why yesterday I thought I would pose the question on my personal Facebook page "You Haven't Lived in Texarkana Until . . . .
But before I share with you what our audience had to say, here are a few of my own answers to that question.
You Haven't Lived in Texarkana Until . . . .
1. You've watched the Texas High VS Arkansas High Game in the fall.
2. You've watched the movie The Town That Dreaded Sundown at the Paramount Theater which is now the Perot Theatre.
3. You've had an ice cold frosty mug of A&W Root Beer from the A&W Drive-in that was located on the corner of Hickory and 9th St.
4. Had a picture taken at Photographer's Island in front of the downtown Post Office with one foot in Arkansas and the other in Texas.
5. Heard the local stories and witnessed sightings of the Fouke Monster.
6. Had peach pie from long time restaurant Bryce's Cafeteria.
7. Watched a movie in my car at Joy Twin Drive-In or 67 Drive-In.
8. Flew a kite on the side of the dam at Wright Patman Lake. When I was a kid it was Lake Texarkana.
9, Attempted to skate at Summerhill Skating Rink back in the day.
10. Make a quick run out to Domino for some beer or wine when all the other liquor stores were closed. That was a Texarkana tradition!
Now here are yours. Thanks for all the great responses.
