Discover The Charm of the Beloved Jonquil Festival in Arkansas

One of my favorite events of the year is coming up this month in historic Washington State Park Arkansas. Make plans to attend the 57th annual Jonquil Festival on March 14-15, 2025.

57th Annual Jonquil Festival

The Jonquil Festival is a short drive from Texarkana and a great way to enjoy the blooming of thousands of jonquils while enjoying tasty food, live music, a classic car show, and arts and crafts in this charming old-style village right off Highway 278.

Festivalgoers will also enjoy touring historic buildings such as the 1874 Courthouse, schoolhouse, gymnasium, candle shop, old church, and the oldest 1824 Post Office west of the Mississippi River. The courthouse is the centerpiece of the Jonquil festival where local artisans and musicians set up around the building grounds.

What makes this festival so unique are the locals who dress in period vintage-style clothing to replicate a step back in time. One of the highlights of the Jonquil festival is watching forging demonstrations at the Blacksmith shop where the infamous James Bowie knife was made on his way to fight at the Texas Alamo centuries ago.

Food Choices

When you get hungry from all the walking, stop by one of the food vendors' booths for gator-on-a-stick, corn dogs, burgers, BBQ, street tacos, kettle corn, and funnel cakes. Visitors can also enjoy a full meal of county cooking at the historic Williams Tavern.

Find a seat at the picnic table or a shady spot underneath an old tree to enjoy lively entertainment from local musicians in the area.

About Washington State Park

This small community was named after U.S. President George Washington to honor his birthday on February 22, 1824. Washington State Park was officially christened in 1965 as a state park it remains listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
