A&M-Texarkana to Expand Number of Accelerated 8-Week Courses
It can be tricky when you have a full-time job but are trying to better yourself by taking college classes. That is why it is great to see Texas A&M University-Texarkana will start offering more 8-week-long courses throughout the academic year.
These 8-week courses have always been a staple for summer. I remember taking summer classes so I could get more classes out of the way and fast. Now you will be able to take some of those fast track classes in the fall and spring semesters too. These classes are popular for students who have a full-time job, hold down multiple jobs or have family responsibilities and children.
Assistant Professor of Adult Education and Leadership Studies Lisa Myers said in a press release,
Many students prefer 8-week courses as they juggle full-time work and family responsibilities. Students report that taking two 8-week courses twice a semester is more manageable than taking four courses throughout a full semester. By the end of the semester, they have completed the same number of courses, but they experience less ‘splintering’ when they only focus on two courses at a time.
With more 8-week courses available the university will be able to attract more students looking to fast-track their way to their desired profession. According to the press release the faculty members are also excited to offer these accelerated 8-week terms and are working on these changes that will positively affect how they teach and how students will learn.
The university will start the two 8-week sessions for the spring of 2024. Those sessions will be Spring I from January,16 to March 8 and Spring II from March, 18 to May 8.
If you are a student and are interested in these 8-week courses you can talk with your academic advisor or go to tamut.edu/schedule for a list of the courses that will be available. If you would like to apply to Texas A&M Texarkana you can go to the application page at tamut.edu/apply.
