Both Supreme Courts from the state of Arkansas and Texas will meet in Texarkana on Wednesday, January 30, and Thursday, January 31, 2019, in the first meeting of its kind, called “Justice on the Line”.

To begin the visit, both supreme courts will meet students and engage in a question and answer session at Arkansas High School, and the Arkansas Supreme Court will hold court regarding a pending appeal.

According to the Press Release, then, a legal education seminar for attorneys from both states will begin shortly before Noon at the Texarkana, Texas Convention Center. The public is invited to attend the scheduled appearance of various high-court justices at the seminar from 2:30 – 4:00p.m., when the justices will conduct a question and answer session along with discussing recent court opinions. Both mayors are scheduled to deliver a joint proclamation immediately preceding this portion of the seminar. Public seating will be available beginning at 2:00 p.m. After the seminar concludes for the day, both supreme courts are scheduled to have a group photo taken on the state line.

On Thursday, the Texas Supreme Court will hear two cases at Texas High’s Sullivan Performing Arts Center. This event will be primarily for area high school students, but the event will be streamed at the Texarkana, Texas Convention Center for the public and the legal seminar attendees beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Following the oral arguments, a ticketed lunch will be held at Texarkana College’s Truman Arnold Center. Tickets will be $15 per person and can be purchased here.
