I love exploring state parks, and now Arkansas State Parks is making sure everyone can access their beauty. Arkansas State Parks recently announced a wonderful new program aimed at making state parks more accessible to everyone.
The state has introduced the Action Trackchair at Logoly State Park (near Magnolia) in partnership with Accessibility Across Arkansas, Inc. This marks an important step toward inclusivity, allowing people with mobility challenges to enjoy the park's natural beauty and trails.
What is the Action Trackchair?
The Action Trackchair is a specialized wheelchair built to handle rough, uneven terrain that regular wheelchairs can't navigate. For safety reasons, Arkansas State Parks has created a User Agreement & Waiver of Liability Form that outlines rules for both users and their companions.
Shea Lewis, Secretary of Arkansas State Parks sais in a press release,
This initiative underscores our commitment to making Arkansas State Parks accessible to everyone. By introducing the Action Trackchair and establishing clear guidelines, we’re opening our beautiful trails to more people, fostering a sense of community and inclusivity, and ensuring everyone, regardless of mobility challenges, can create lasting memories in our parks.
To use the Action Trackchair, you will need to complete an online training session and review the “Action Trackchair Owner’s Manual.” The User Agreement also stresses personal responsibility and the safe handling of the equipment.
At the launch event, a live demonstration of the Action Trackchair showed how it works and allowed attendees to see how it makes new areas of the park accessible.
Arkansas State Parks invites visitors of all abilities to visit Logoly State Park and take advantage of this new offering. If you would like more information and learn of some of the guidelines while using the Action Trackchair visit accessibilityacrossarkansas.org.
