Arkansas State Police are busy cracking down on drug trafficking in the state. Back on Monday, August 26, they made a huge drug bust during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Pope County.

The incident took place near the 78-mile marker. Troopers pulled over a rented 2024 Jeep Compass heading eastbound for a traffic violation.

During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered 88 bundles of methamphetamine hidden inside a large duffle bag and a suitcase in the trunk. The weight of all the meth was over 100 pounds. In addition to the meth, troopers found a backpack containing two pounds of fentanyl pills and a plastic bag of illegal marijuana

The ASP is reporting that the estimated street value of the drugs seized is around $4.8 million.

Arkansas State Police Arrest in Drug Trafficking

The driver, identified as 52-year-old Anthony Reese from Midfield, Alabama, was arrested on the scene. He was taken to the Pope County Detention Center, where he faces felony charges, including Trafficking Controlled Substance, Trafficking Fentanyl, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

This major drug seizure highlights yet another great effort from law enforcement as they fight drug trafficking in Arkansas.
