
Suspect Dead Following Officer-Involved Shooting Near Texarkana
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday evening, April 12, 2026, just east of Texarkana.
Here's What Happened With Fatal Shooting Near Texarkana
Around 6:15 PM, an ASP trooper pulled over a GMC SUV on State Highway 296. Before the stop, the trooper confirmed the driver, Tommy Ray Sevier, 46, had an active felony warrant.

Officers from the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department also responded to help. They were already familiar with Sevier and his warrants.
Shots Fired During the Traffic Stop
During the stop, the trooper spoke with Sevier and explained why he was pulled over. More officers arrived to assist, but Sevier refused several commands to get out of the vehicle.

At some point during the encounter, shots were fired by both Sevier and a TAPD officer. Sevier was hit during the exchange.
Medical Aid and Investigation in Miller County, Arkansas
Officers gave medical aid right away and called for emergency services. Sevier was taken to a local hospital, where he later died

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory will determine the official cause and manner of death.
Special agents with ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division are continuing the investigation. Once it’s complete, the case will be sent to the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will decide if the officer’s actions followed Arkansas law.
