Arkansas State Police Arrest Double Homicide Suspect in Lake Village
A McGehee, Arkansas man wanted as a suspect in a December 2023 double murder investigation was taken into custody this week by Arkansas State Troopers during a routine traffic stop.
This past Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at approximately 7:25 PM, Arkansas State Police (ASP) stopped a black Dodge Charger at the intersection of Arkansas Highways 65 and 82 in Lake Village for what appeared to be a routine traffic violation. During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle was identified as 25-year-old Taiwan Collins Jr., of McGehee, Arkansas. Collins Jr. was wanted by the Monticello Police Department in connection with a double homicide investigation from December 2023 in Wilmar, Arkansas.
ASP officers arrested Collins and transported him to the Drew County Detention Center, where he is being held on two counts of Capital Murder.
The double homicide occurred on Sunday, December 3, 2023, that's when the Drew County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at approximately 2:30 AM, when Officers arrived at the old Wilmar School on North 5th Street they found two deceased men. Suquorey Pitts Jr., 25, of Dumas, was found in the front passenger seat of a vehicle parked in the school’s driveway. Also, Independence Young, 21, of McGehee, was found lying on North 5th Street.
The ASP Criminal Investigation Division Company B investigated the homicides.
