Cooler Weather Ahead? Time to Explore Oklahoma’s Best-Kept Secret
With the cooler weather approaching this week, it's the perfect time for hiking in the great outdoors.
Beavers Bend State Park: The Ultimate Hiking Destination
Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow is the perfect destination to do just that, no matter what time of the season. I recently took a week off and headed to the mountainous region of southeastern Oklahoma, and went hiking near the Mountain Fork River. The beauty of the Ouachita Mountains, which runs from Arkansas to this little corner of Oklahoma, feels untouched, with heavily wooded forests and Broken Bow Lake.

Beavers Bend State Lodge: The Perfect Place to Unplug and Unwind
If you are looking for a place to unplug and unwind, the Beavers Bend State Park Lodge is just what the doctor ordered, with pristine views of the lake from any room. Not only will you get a beautiful sunrise and sunset over the lake, but you will be greeted by several deer who make the wooded area their home. These deer have become so used to people that they show up in the morning and evening, hoping a guest will throw them something to eat from the balcony.
While Hochatown is just minutes away, staying lost in nature is not a bad thing. There are several trails in the area that you could spend a few hours or even make a day out of. Friends Trail is one of the more popular trails at Beavers Bend. There are several beautiful waterfalls near the river at the end of the scenic trail. The water is clear and clean, with some of the best panoramic views of the region.
Plenty of Activities for Nature Lovers at Beavers Bend
If hiking is not your thing, there are plenty of other activities for nature lovers, such as biking, boating, fishing, water skiing, nature center activities, river float trips, canoeing, horseback riding, and more.
Explore Beavers Bend State Park: Autumn is Right Around the Corner
I am already thinking about making a return trip this fall when the leaves start changing colors, typically around the middle of October into early November. Beavers Bend State Park is well worth the drive, no matter the season or where you're from. There is always something to do or see tucked away in this majestic southeastern corner of Oklahoma.
