Learn How To Be A Beekeeper in This Special Class in Texarkana
Have you ever thought about becoming a beekeeper and harvesting your very own delicious honey? Texas A&M University-Texarkana and the Bowie County Master Gardeners have teamed up to teach you how to become a beekeeper with the program “Getting Started with Honeybees”.
You can learn everything you need to know to start up your beehive on Monday, March 11 from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Heather McBride, who is a local beekeeper will teach the class. Did you know 'Beekeeping' is also known as apiculture? You'll learn about the practice of nurturing and managing honeybee colonies and their hives. The main reason to be a beekeeper is of course, for the wonderful honey.
But being a beekeeper is more than just the honey. Being a beekeeper is also a very important part of our ecosystem. Bees are crucial for pollination and benefit agriculture and ecosystem health all around the world. Without bees, there would be no us.
To be a beekeeper you must have patience, the skill, and an understanding of bee behavior. This is a rewarding hobby but it is also an important one.
This program will take place in Room 326 at the University Center Building. The event is free and open to the public, and reservations are not required.
There will be a question-and-answer session following the program.
