Literacy Council Annual Spelling Bee’s New Twist in Texarkana
The Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties is having its 30th Annual Spelling Bee this Saturday, but this year there's a twist. The program won't be a high-pressure contest with contestants spelling on stage, this year it will focus more on spelling, grammar, and vocabulary trivia.
This fun fundraiser begins at 6 PM this Saturday, April 13 at Silvermoon on Broad in Texarkana. There will also be a drawdown and silent auction.
Jenny Walker, a member of the Literacy Council’s board of directors said in a press release,
We have struggled in the last few years to get teams for the Spelling Bee. I think people have become hesitant to spell very challenging words on a stage in front of an audience. We hope this new approach can be a more inviting way to boost participation in our largest fundraiser of the year.
If you have a passion for words then you'll love this trivia-style contest about spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. Tickets are $25 at the door and include dinner
The draw-down will have a $5,000 jackpot. Tickets for the downtown are $100 and include dinner for two.
You can purchase tickets from any member of the Literacy Council board of directors or online at literacytxk.org/fundraiser. Draw-down ticket purchasers do not have to be present to win. Don't miss the silent auction. There will be wonderful items all up for grabs. Proceeds from this event will go to the Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties.
