Best Bigfoot Hunting In Texas? Top 5 Counties Revealed
If you want to go Squatchin' in the Great State of Texas, it helps to know where they are so you have the best chances of spotting one, right? An article was recently published giving us some great insights as to the best counties in Texas to look along with the most recent, documented sightings.
Here We Go a-Squatchin!
Let's face it, Bigfoot hunting, or "Squatchin", as I prefer to call it, ain't for everyone. Hour upon hour of slogging through dense forest or swampy areas, at night. It will be way too cold, or way too hot, and the bugs are so loud you can't hear yourself think.
Bigfoot Hunters: What are they hoping for?
Bigfoot hunters are hoping that suddenly the forest gets crazy-quiet, then you hear movement not too far away in the darkness, and whatever it is, you can feel it, it's big. Then a whoop or a grunt, a sound you know is not normal coming from these woods. You stop moving and wait for more noises to try and pinpoint the origin, then comes the overpowering stench assaulting your nostrils. Maybe, just maybe something enormous will step out onto the game trail right there in front of you, and your camera catches the whole thing.
Then you change your pants and go home, because, first you say it, then you're gonna do it!

Tom Jackson, in a recent article on TravellersElixer.com, did the research for us that will come in handy if you're wondering where are my best chances of seeing the elusive beastie in Texas. One of those counties is...
Cass County
If you grew up in East Texas then it shouldn't be a big surprise that Cass County would be in the Top 5 in Texas to have a shot at seeing a Bigfoot. With 10 documented encounters. Cass is actually at #4 overall, according to the list.
Of course, right next to Cass County, Texas is Miller County, Arkansas, and we all know about Boggy Creek and the world famous Fouke Monster. We don't have to go far for a good Squatch hunt.
As for the rest of the Top 5?
#5 - Rusk County (southwest of Marshall) with 9 sightings.
#3 - Liberty County (northeast of Houston) with 10 sightings.
#2 - Montgomery County (just north of Houston) with 16 sightings!
#1 - Wood County with 4 sightings! Wait, what? Just 4 sightings? How does Wood County get top billing with just 4 sightings? Wood County, which is just north of Tyler, has the distinction of having the most recent sighting from March of 2024. Well, that is exciting.
