Bowie County Shooting Incident Leaves One Person Dead
An incident late Sunday night near DeKalb, Texas has left a local man dead.
Bowie County Sheriffs Deputies were dispatched to a shooting call in the 900 block of County Road 4106 near DeKalb just before midnight.
Authorities say when they arrived, deputies spoke with a resident year old Nicholas Paul, while Life Net personnel provided medical attention to a gun shot victim.
Deputies say Paul told them that Rodney Clay Peters, who he described as his best friend and roommate, had been acting, "crazy", and reportedly carrying his rifle around with him.
Paul also told authorities that at some point Peters came to his bedroom and pointed the rifle at him. Paul said he grabbed a handgun that was next to his bed and fired at the victim to protect his life.
After the shooting, Paul told authorities he called 911 and then performed CPR on Peters until Life Net personnel arrived and took over. Authorities say Peters succumbed to his injury.
According to the Bowie County Sheriffs Office, evidence collected in reference to this shooting has proven consistent with the information gathered from Paul.
No arrest have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
