Local firefighters were kept busy Monday afternoon after a brush fire in the Liberty-Eylau community broke out.

Crews responded in the 1PM hour yesterday to a brush fire off of Buchanon Road. Fortunately firefighters were able to control and put out the fire. Several residents were evacuated, when the flames threatened several homes in the area east of Buchanon Road.

No injuries were reported and no word yet on how the blaze got started in the first place. However, due to the fact that it has been so dry this fall season, Outdoor burning of any kind is discouraged and burn bans are in effect in many counties around the Texarkana area.
