
Taste the Past: Master Cast-Iron Cooking at Prairie D’Ane Battlefield in Arkansas
The Nevada County Depot Museum is inviting everyone to slow down, step back in time, and experience the flavors of history during a special cast-iron cooking class that will take place on Saturday, April 18.
This hands-on event will take place at the scenic Prairie D’Ane Battlefield, a short drive from Texarkana in Prescott, Arkansas, offering a unique opportunity to learn traditional cooking methods in an authentic outdoor setting.

Learn the Art of Dutch Oven Cooking in Arkansas
The workshop will be led by Sheila Ballard. She will guide you through preparing a full meal over an open flame using cast-iron Dutch ovens. From main dishes to dessert, you will get a true taste of historical recipes and techniques that reflect our region’s culinary heritage.

A Historic Setting to Explore in Prescott, Arkansas
Prairie D’Ane spans more than 800 acres of preserved natural prairie and is managed by the Depot Museum. The site is open year-round and features fishing ponds, walking trails, and interpretive signage that shares its historical significance, making it the perfect place for an immersive experience.

The class begins at 11 AM and is $25 per person. Pre-registration is required, and spot are limited, so register as soon as possible.
