Texas A&M University-Texarkana announces that its local chapter of Alpha Chi has been named a Star Chapter for the 2013-2014 academic year. Fewer than 14 percent of Alpha Chi chapters across the nation received this honor. This award includes local, national, and administrative components. At the local level, chapters identify, invite, and induct new members and lead members in at least one on-campus program in promotion of scholarship. Nationally, one faculty member and one student must attend the annual convention, and at least one student must be nominated for the national Alpha Chi fellowship or scholarship.

On the administrative side, filing the appropriate paperwork for all of these activities with the national office is required throughout the year.

Keith Beason, Activities and Orientation Specialist at A&M-Texarkana says “Alpha Chi is a prestigious national honor society that admits only the top 10% of juniors, seniors, and graduate students at their 300 plus chapters across the nation.  Being recognized by the national organization in this manner speaks highly of our students and their accomplishments here at A&M-Texarkana.”

Trisha Yarbrough, Executive Director of the National College Honor Scholarship Society, said “This award recognizes your institution’s important role in Alpha Chi and its support for the scholarly ideals of the society.”  She added “Dr. Julien, any assistant sponsors, and the student members represent your school well.”
