The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (UAHT) is offering a free, two-week GenCyber Cybersecurity summer camp this July. The camp will run from July 14-17 and July 21-24, from 8:30 AM to 1 PM. at the UAHT Texarkana campus.

Who is the GenCyber Cybersecurity Camp for?

This camp is specially designed for students entering grades 7-12. Students will have hands-on training in cybersecurity. They will also be introduced to career opportunities in this growing field. This camp is free of charge. A Spanish translator will be available to assist attendees.

The camp is open to students from the following districts:

Ashdown
Fouke
Genoa
Hope
Liberty-Eylau
Nashville
Pleasant Grove
TASD
TISD
The GenCyber camp is part of a program funded by a grant from the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity, awarded to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The camp will be led by Brittni Hardie, UAHT Cybersecurity Program Director, and Jennifer Teresa, Dean of Business and Industry Programs.

Hardie stated in a press release,

It’s not just about teaching skills—it’s about opening doors, sparking curiosity, and showing our students that they have a place in the world of technology.  This is a chance to inspire young minds and help them build a brighter future.

Students will learn the core cybersecurity principles, including:

Defense in Depth
Confidentiality
Integrity
Availability
Thinking Like an Adversary
Keeping It Simple
Students will be a part of hands-on activities, like simulating cyberattacks and learning to defend against them. The students will also work with mentors to present research topics and receive certificates of achievement at the end of the camp.

The Learning Continues After the Camp

After the camp concludes, UA Little Rock will host alumni events, including workshops, networking opportunities, and a mentoring program that pairs GenCyber graduates with cybersecurity professionals. They’ll also collaborate with the Arkansas Department of Education to develop cybersecurity resources for K-12 classrooms across the state.
