My Personal Recollections of the Band Diamond Rio Coming to Texarkana

I was working for a country radio station in Hot Springs, Arkansas, when Diamond Rio dropped in on my show to introduce themselves for the very first time. They had just released their first single, "Meet In The Middle," and became the first country music group in history to reach No. 1 with a debut single on the country music Billboard charts.

They were some of the nicest guys I've met in the country music world, very down to earth and humble. They returned to Hot Springs numerous times throughout my radio career there, and I always enjoyed visiting with them.

Originally, the band was called the Tennessee River Boys in the 1980s until they inked a record deal with Arista Records in 1991, changing their name to Diamond Rio.

Diamond Rio Produced Numerous Chart-toppers and Won Prestigious Awards

This proved to be the best move in the record industry as the band went on to produce seven No. 1 singles, 15 Top 5 singles, and 20 Top 10 singles. One of their biggest No. 1 hits, "One More Day," became a crossover along with countless others, "How Your Love Makes Me Feel," "Beautiful Mess," and "I Believe."

Diamond Rio is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and has won 6 Vocal Group of the Year Awards (four CMA and two ACM); received 14 Grammy nominations; and won a Grammy Award for their album, "The Reason."
