Texarkana to Dedicate Eddie Mathews Historical Marker at Swanger
Ceremony Set for May 30 at Swanger Sports Complex
The City of Texarkana, Texas, will dedicate a historical marker honoring Baseball Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews on Saturday, May 30, at 9 AM at the Swanger Sports Complex in Spring Lake Park.

The marker was donated by the U12 Texarkana Naturals as a way to recognize one of Texarkana’s most accomplished athletes and preserve his legacy for future generations.
Honoring Texarkana’s Only Major League Hall of Famer
A Texarkana native, Mathews became one of Major League Baseball’s greatest third basemen during his professional career. Known for his powerful bat and consistent play, he earned induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and remains the only Hall of Famer from Texarkana, Texas.
Marker Aims to Inspire Young Athletes
City officials say the location of the marker at Swanger Sports Complex makes the dedication especially meaningful because it connects Mathews’ story to a place where young athletes continue to develop their skills and love for the game. Leaders hope the memorial will inspire local youth and serve as a reminder that hometown athletes can achieve success on the national stage.
