Events at Texarkana Arkansas School District
Recently the Texarkana Arkansas School District DECA students held a bowl-a-thon and raised $600 for Muscular Dystrophy.
The check was presented to ARKLATEX MDA located in Shreveport. DECA students have been invited to participate in the Shreveport walk in September.
Fairview and Kiwanis Club of Texarkana are teaming up to celebrate student success. On Friday, April 21 from 1:30-2:30PM, Fairview will hold the BUGS Award Assembly. BUGS stands for Bringing Up Grades Safely and is inspired by the campuses work with Stephen Covey’s "Leader in Me" program. The BUGS program is designed to help all students reach their fullest potential by focusing on their accomplishments whether they make the honor roll or not -- all growth is celebrated.
Fairview staff work diligently to help students set individual goals and try their best to accomplish those goals. In addition to receiving certificates of accomplishments in core subjects, students will receive Good “Bee” havior, Bookworms, Attendance, and Super BUG awards for their leadership goals.
Students in Juanita Harris’ first grade class at Union Elementary are studying economics and their interactive hands-on project is generating a buzz across the state of Arkansas. Harris’ students earn (play) money by completing task in the classroom. Each week the students must pay rent, utilities, and other needed expenses before they are able to purchase items they want from the classroom store. The classroom store is stocked with snacks, lanyards, Razorback foam fingers, tote bags and other fun knickknacks available for students to purchase.
The students are learning the importance of paying sales tax and a representative from Arkansas Department of Finance will visit the class on Friday, April 28, at 1PM to watch the students in action and share the importance of learning about economics.
On Friday, April 22, at 6PM, the AHS Redline will present their spring show ‘A Night with Redline.” The event will showcase the Redline team and introduce new team members. Admission is $5.
Saturday, April 15, Kilpatrick held its inaugural Hunger’s No Game 5K and Fun Run/Walk. Several businesses participated by setting up food and refreshment booths for participants. The Hunger’s No Game 5K and Fun Run event participants donated over 5,000 canned food items which was donated to The Randy Sam’s Outreach Shelter. Seventy-five 5K runners and 175 Fun Run/Walkers registered for the event.
Awards were given in the following categories: Overall Female Winner -Rose Dickinson (Time 19:16); Male Overall Winner - Jeff Haynes (Time 18:11) and Age 60 and Over Winner - Lloyd McDaniel (Time 27:54).
