
Arkansas State Police Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Garland County
The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Garland County at the request of the sheriff’s office.
This past Tuesday, October 7, around 8 PM, a Garland County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call in the 100 block of Ebony Way regarding a man reportedly swinging a shovel at a passing vehicle.
Confrontation Leads to Deputy Using Deadly Force
Upon arrival, deputies encountered 34-year-old Anthony Michael Dean of Hot Springs, who allegedly threatened the deputy with the shovel. The deputy discharged his service weapon, fatally striking Dean.
Dean’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where officials will determine the official cause and manner of death.

Investigation Ongoing
ASP CID Special Agents are preparing a report for the Garland County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors will review the file to determine whether the use of deadly force aligns with Arkansas law.
