The Federal Emergency Management Agency, better known as FEMA, will hold a public assistance meeting this week in Bowie County.The meeting will be this Thursday at the Bowie County Courthouse in New Boston. It will begin at 9 a.m. inside the Commissioner's courtroom on the second floor.
“The purpose of this meeting is for FEMA to explain assistance eligibility and the application process to those entities who qualify under public assistance. Eligible Public Assistance entities include local governments, i.e., cities, counties, school districts, fire departments and select non-profits.
"I encourage all those who are interested in seeking assistance for a weather-related expense that they have incurred since the declared disaster date of May 8th to attend this meeting,” said Bowie County Judge James Carlow.
Bowie County has also applied for individual assistance and is currently awaiting final approval.
“Individual Assistance is for Bowie County citizens who have suffered uninsured damage or loss of their home due to the disaster. Although Bowie County has not yet received declaration for individual assistance, those who are interested in pre-registering may do so by phone at 1-800-621-3362.
If Bowie County is granted individual assistance, then online registration will also be available at www.FEMA.gov,” said Judge Carlow. Bowie County has also been designated one of 39 counties eligible to apply for low-interest emergency loans from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Information on eligibility and the application process for this program will be coordinated through the local Farm Service Agency (FSA).
