If you love to garden, here's a free opportunity to learn a valuable skill that can help your garden thrive for years to come.

The Bowie County Master Gardeners and Texas A&M University-Texarkana's School of Professional Education and Community Engagement have teamed up to host a free program called "Seed Saving: What You Need to Know to Get Started" on Monday, October 12, beginning at 6 PM.

The class will be held in Room 326 of the University Building on the Texas A&M-Texarkana campus. No reservation is required, and the program is open to the public.

Why Seed Saving Matters

The presentation will be led by Phyllis Ballard, a Bowie County Master Gardener.

This is a great trick to learn and I wish I had learned it sooner. Some seeds need special care until the next season, while others can be thrown out where you want the plants to grow. This class will give you some of the secrets to harvesting and saving seeds from your favorite plants.

Seed saving helps gardeners preserve plant varieties, reduce the cost of buying new seeds each season, and grow plants that flourish with our weather conditions. It also plays an important role in protecting biodiversity and supporting sustainable gardening practices.

Whether you're new to gardening or have years of experience, the class will offer helpful information on how to get started saving seeds and storing them properly for future growing seasons.

Connect With Other Gardeners

The event is also a chance to meet fellow gardeners to share ideas with others in the community who enjoy growing plants, vegetables, and flowers.

For more information, contact the Bowie County Extension Office at 903-628-6702 or Texas A&M-Texarkana at (903) 223-3039.
