The summer season is here and I've been trying to think of places within traveling distance from here to take the family. One place comes to mind Gators and Friends located in Greenwood, LA. I remember when I was a child growing up in Texarkana my Dad would take me and my brother to see the alligators at Spring Lake Park Zoo. I was always amazed by the brute force and strength of these majestic creatures. Well, the zoo is no longer here but if you want to see huge alligators feed, wrestle and swim in a natural habitat, Gators and Friends is the place to go this summer.  In addition, Gators and Friends has a fully stocked petting zoo where you and the kids can get up close and personal with cuddly miniature horses, kangaroos, ring-tailed lemurs, deer, coatimundis, goats, llamas, a camel, a capybara (the largest rodent in the world), and even a Scottish cow! You can even help feed them!

Gators and Friends is centrally located in Northwest Louisiana, just 10 miles from Shreveport, LA, in the Ark-La-Tex. It’s a great place for a weekend visit or a weekday trip.

Open 10-6 daily from May through August.Open Wednesday through Sunday (closed Monday and Tuesday) September through April. Get more information and ticket prices here. Gators and Friends also has added a zip line adventure, see more at their facebook page.
