This Friday, June 22 is Good Grief Day from 10AM-2PM at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Texarkana.

Hospice of Texarkana has offered the Good Grief Club to hurting children for 18 years because kids grieve too.  This is for youth ages 7-17 who have experienced loss caused by:  Death, divorce, a parent being incarcerated, a parent serving in the military or a move.  We have two Master’s Level Social Workers who will facilitate Good Grief Day along with help from other Hospice of Texarkana Staff Members.  Parents/Guardians are encouraged to drop-off their child/teen for the highly supervised, four-hour event because they tend to be more open about their sadness if parents are not present.  Often children don’t want to increase the pain of others by talking about sensitive subjects.

There is no cost to attend.  RSVP’s are needed to plan the food and craft supplies.  Parents/Guardians need to walk-in and fill-out a brief form of contact information to register the child.  Kids and teens are encouraged to attend.  They will be split into age appropriate groups.

Maggie Grace their comfort dog will also be on hand for all kids who attend.

Besides this annual Good Grief Day in Texarkana, a Club was recently offered in Nashville, Arkansas, and will be offered in other surrounding communities before the end of the year.  This program is mainly underwritten by the Kiwanis Club of Texarkana.  The June 22nd, four-hour event will have food provided my McDonald’s, pet therapy by “Toby’s Tales and Lori Anderson” and other essential items provided by East Funeral Home.  As the community’s non-profit hospice since 1985, they appreciate these supporters.
