TexDOT reminds us all to please Be Safe and Drive Smart. We have had way to many accidents and way too many deaths. In 2024, there were almost 24,000 crashes in Texas work zones and of those accidents, 215 people died. That number is up 12% more than the year before.

In the Atlanta, Texas District of the TexDOT, which covers 9 counties: Bowie, Camp, Cass, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Titus and Upshur counties. There were 428 work zone crashes in 2024. Four people died and 16 were seriously injured.

Tip For Driving in a Work Zone Area in Texarkana

When driving through a Work Zone Area please remember to Slow Down. Stay focused on driving. That means no texting or even scrolling on your phone. Just drive. Be sure to watch for workers and give them space. Do not tailgate. Rear-end accidents are common in work zones. And please give yourself extra time to get to your destination.

Also, remember the Move Over or Slow Down Law in Texas. If you see TxDOT, emergency, police, tow truck or utility vehicles on the side of the road you need to move over a lane to give them more space. If you can not do that, then you must slow down to at least 20 mph.

Be Safe Drive Smart is a part of their Drive like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe. Let's make sure everyone gets home safe.
