If You See This in Your Mailbox in Arkansas or Texas, Stay Calm!
We always need to be on the lookout for scams. There are new scams all the time all over the country, but sometimes you hear something crazy and then you find out there is a good reason for it.
Have you spotted a dryer sheet in your mailbox? Have you wondered if someone is playing a joke on you or is this something dangerous that someone put in your mailbox?
Don't panic, stay calm. This is something that your mailman may have done and it's not malicious or dangerous it's actually a good thing.
During the summer months, wasps and hornets are known to set up nests in mailboxes. Believe it or not, a great trick to keep them from setting up house in your mailbox is a scented dryer sheet.
If you think about how many mailboxes a postal worker puts their hand in every day, there is a good chance they have been stung by a wasp or hornet.
This technique will only prevent the critters from making a nest it won't make them leave if they are already there. And you need to use scented dryer sheets.
A mail carrier a couple of years ago actually posted this little tidbit of information on Reddit. One of the reply comments on the forum is from a restaurant worker who said they put the dryer sheets under tablecloths for tables outside to keep the hornets away.
If wasps have already set up house in your mailbox the only thing you can do safely is call a professional to take care of it.
