Texas Microchip Company Shuts Down, Your Pet’s Chip Might Not Work Now
🐶Texas Microchip company closes, making pets untraceable
🐱What does a pet's microchip do?
🐶What to do if your pet's microchip is not working
If you have a pet dog or cat and you're like me, there is always that fear that they will get lost. Luckily, in today's world when you adopt a pet most of the time they are microchipped...but a microchip company in Texas shut down and now those microchips are not working.
Why Are Pets Microchipped?
The microchip can give a pet owner peace of mind by knowing you have taken precautions to keep your animal safe and easier to find if they get lost. Microchipping your pet is not a GPS as some people mistakenly think. The microchip when scanned by a vet will show all the emergency information about your pet, their name and most importantly your name and phone number.
How to Check if Your Pet's Microchip Has Been Affected & Doesn't Work
Recently a microchip company in Texas called Save This Life went out of business. This means if your fur baby received one of their chips it will not work, at least not right now.

What to do if your pet's microchip is one that is affected
The good news is all you will need to do, is register it with another company. Some will have a fee but other companies are free. You can find a list of companies here. The great thing about this list is all the companies are partnered with AAHA.org, which keeps a database of all the pet chip numbers.
According to CBSNews if you don't have a record of your pet's microchip number your vet might have a record of it or they can scan it. You can also look up the microchip number at AAHA.org to see what company your pet's chip is registered through.
I have my cat Izzy with Home Again but there are other great companies out there to register with. This is also a great time to update the information that is on the microchip.
