(KNUE-FM) This has to be one of the best stories I have heard in a while and it’s all about one dog being returned to its owners here in Texas. Thanks to the help of New Jersey police officers one lost dog was reunited with its owners from North Texas.

Lost Dog Found in New Jersey Park

According to NBCDFW, it was the Clark Police Department in New Jersey that was contacted by a local citizen about a dog roaming in a park in Clark Township, New Jersey. That is when patrolman Nick Kurus responded to the call and captured the dog and took it back to police headquarters.

At headquarters, officers used a microchip reader and were able to identify the number of a pet finder service. After contacting the service, they found a name and phone number for the last recorded owner.

Microchip Leads to Texas Owners

As you would expect the dog's owners in Glenn Heights, Texas was shocked to get the call from patrolman Kurus.

The family informed the patrolman that the dog was named Koko and had gone missing two years ago in Texas. Luckily, members of the Clark Police Department agreed to take care of the dog for a few days.

Emotional Reunion After Two Years

The owners arrived safely and were reunited with their dog, in fact Koko ran straight to its owners. Koko’s owners were beyond grateful for the care and compassion shown by the Clark Police.

No one is exactly sure how the dog traveled around 1,500 miles, but the important part is that the dog is safe and back home with its owners.

As a big fan of dogs, I love hearing stories like this. It’s also a great reminder to make sure your pets are microchipped in case they do run away it drastically increases your chances of getting them back.
