Luckily, families can breathe a little deeper and travel a little farther because gas prices are continuing to drop in Texas.

How Texas Stacks Up Against the National Average

According to AAA Texas, gas prices dropped another 14 cents this week, bringing the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded to $3.58. The national average is still above $4 at $4.13 per gallon. Nationally, the cost dropped 11 cents this week.

Where to Find the Cheapest Gas in Texas Right Now

The cheapest gas in Texas can be found in Sherman-Denison for $3.35 per gallon, while El Paso is still the highest at $3.86.

  • Lubbock: $3.54 - Last week: $3.68 - down 14 cents from last week
  • Midland: $3.66 - Last week: $3.60 - up 6 cents from last week
  • Abilene: $3.53 - Last week: $3.74 - down 21 cents from last week
  • Tyler: $3.56 - Last week: $3.72 - down 16 cents from last week
  • El Paso: $3.86 - Last week: $4.06 - down 20 cents from last week

Why Gas Prices Could Still Change This Summer

Summer usually brings peak gas prices, and many Texans are cautiously optimistic that gas prices will continue to drop, but most know they could skyrocket at any time. The Strait of Hormuz is still unstable, so the future of gas prices is unknown. However, a peace memorandum between the US and Iran is expected to be signed on Sunday, June 14, reopening the Strait.

The cost of crude oil is still around $100 per barrel. According to OilPrice.com this week, Brent oil is at $87.33 per barrel, while WTI is at $84.69. Both dropped nearly $10 per barrel in a week.

Texans are still paying 83 cents more per gallon than this time last year, but fingers crossed prices will continue to drop. We all could use gas prices under $3 again.
