The Texarkana College Board of Trustees held a budget workshop. The college is looking at red ink in the budget for the next several years. The board says they will work with the new President James Henry Russell, the faculty, staff, studetns and the community to get the finances back in shape.

Hiring slowed to a near standstill last month. Employers added the fewest jobs in nine months and the unemployment rate rose to 9.2%. The Labor Department says the economy generated only 18,000 net jobs in June. The number of jobs added in May was revised down to 25,000.

High gasoline prices and supply-chain disruptions stemming from the Japan crisis and the weak housing market have slowed the economy.
