According to LifeShare, blood centers across the country are experiencing critically low inventories, with Type O blood in especially high demand. Type O-positive blood is the most commonly used blood type in hospitals, while O-negative blood is considered the universal donor type and is often used in emergencies, trauma cases, and for newborn babies.

Mandi Johnson, Director of Community Engagement at LifeShare, said in a press release,

Every blood donation has the power to save lives, but right now Type O donors are especially critical. With a national blood crisis impacting communities across the country, we need our Type O donors to step forward now. Their donation will mean the difference between our local hospitals having blood available for patients in our communities or not.

Donors Can Receive a $25 Gift Card

As a thank-you to those who answer the call, LifeShare is offering a $25 gift card to eligible Type O donors who complete a whole blood or red cell donation between July 30 and August 13, while supplies last.

The promotion is available at all LifeShare donor centers and mobile blood drives throughout the region. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

To schedule a donation appointment, visit LifeShare's website or call (800) 256-5433. Every donation can help ensure local hospitals have the blood they need when patients need it most.
