Have you ever noticed that music can give you a burst of energy? You can be in the sourest of moods, but when you favorite song comes on that all changes. Some people even suggest playing super upbeat songs to help you get out of bed in the morning. There's something to that.

Music gets us moving... literally.

Researchers at the American College of Cardiology say that music can have a positive effect on you, especially when it comes to exercise. Because music gives us a mood boost, it therefore tells the brain to release those feel-good, energy-boosting chemicals. Those can come in handy when you're logging miles on the treadmill.

This is the first study that looks directly at the effect music has on exercise tolerance. In the study, participants were given a cardiac stress test. Some listened to music while others didn't. Those who listened to music were "able to exercise for almost one minute longer" than those who didn't. That may not seem like a lot, but in this 20-minute long test, every minute counts. Especially when most participants don't make it past seven or eight minutes.
