Have You Been On Arkansas’ Own ‘Little Golden Gate Bridge’?

San Francisco, California, has a lot to boast about; it's a beautiful part of Northern Cali, with the incredibly steep hills, the streetcars, Alcatraz, and the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge. Did you know Arkansas has its own version of the Golden Gate Bridge? It's true.

Head To The Tippy Top Of The State

This bridge, located near the town of Eureka Springs, almost a stone's throw from the Missouri border, has been named the "Little Golden Gate Bridge". It's not exactly famous, and much smaller, of course, but dare I say, it might be even more fun to drive across. Not because it's high up, or looking out over the bay at all the seafaring traffic. Trust me, no Aircraft Carrier can sail under this one. I'm not sure you could get a canoe under it, but you can drive on it.

Can You Say One Lane?

Okay, the canoe line is an exaggeration; you can drive a decent-sized boat under it just fine, but you cannot, however, drive two cars on it in different directions at the same time. This amazing bridge is a one-laner, not one in both directions, one lane only. The only thing controlling that one-lane traffic flow is this:

• Speed Limit is 10 MPH
• The Weight Limit is 10 Tons
• Max Vehicle Height is 11'6"
• And oh yeah, it's made of wood!

So, yeah, it might be kind of exciting.

The Crossing...

This would be classified as a side-adventure... My wife and I have been to Eureka Springs twice, and each time we have found some amazing new places to explore. The Little Golden Gate Bridge is now officially on our "Side-Bucket List". Not the main list, but if we ever get up to Northern Arkansas again, we're crossing that!
