UAHT Showcases Career and Technical Education During CTE Month
Every February, National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month highlights programs that prepare students for real-world careers. CTE focuses on hands-on learning and practical skills, connecting education directly to jobs that keep communities running and the economy moving.
Meeting the Demand for Texarkana-Area Skilled Workers
Today’s economy depends on technical talent. Industries such as construction, manufacturing, transportation, energy, and information technology rely on workers who can apply knowledge in real-world settings. These jobs require problem-solving skills, technical training, and the ability to adapt to evolving technology.

Many technical careers cannot be automated or outsourced. As experienced workers retire, the gap between open jobs and qualified workers continues to grow. CTE programs help close that gap by preparing students with job-ready skills employers need right now.
Education With a Clear Purpose
CTE programs are built around specific career pathways, not abstract goals. Many are developed with input from industry partners to ensure students learn skills that match workforce demands.
These programs serve a wide range of learners, including high school students, recent graduates, working adults, and career changers. CTE programs are often faster and more affordable than traditional four-year degrees and can lead to strong wages and long-term career stability.
Technical Pathways at UA Hope-Texarkana
The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (UAHT) plays a key role in delivering workforce-focused education for the region. UAHT offers degrees and certifications aligned with in-demand careers, many of which can be taken for free starting in high school. Financial support is available through programs such as the Arkansas Workforce Grant and ArFuture Grant.

UAHT offers training in coding, cybersecurity, fiber optics, and information technology, as well as hands-on programs in construction technology, diesel technology, electromechanical technology, HVAC, solar energy, and welding. These careers support critical infrastructure and offer strong job prospects.
Strengthening Communities Through CTE
CTE strengthens communities by helping local employers hire skilled workers and giving residents access to meaningful careers close to home. National CTE Month serves as a reminder that technical education is a vital part of the workforce and the economy.
