According to data compiled from Preply, a language tutoring company has learned that "Nana" tops the list in most states followed closely by Grammy, Granny, and Grand in second place for popular nicknames for grandparents. Some folks I know are called Memaw or Papaw, boy that sure sounds county to me but there; 's nothing wrong with it.
Top Names for Grandpa
For Grandpa, the study revealed that Papa was tops on the list followed closely by Granddad which was prevalent in southern states.

The days of using one or two common grandparents' names are over that's fine if you want to use a traditional name maybe because that's what you called your grandparents growing up and now as your kids grow up and have children of their own you may want to stick with tradition.
While grandfather, grandpa, grandma, or even granny sound old-fashioned there is nothing wrong with calling your grandparents something cool or different. Maybe it's something based on their personality or you just like the name you chose because it fits who they are. I know some grandparents who refuse to be called grandpa or grandma so they suggest to their grandchildren what they would like to go by. Remember just because you tell them doesn't always mean they will call you that.
I know when I had grandchildren I didn't want a traditional name, I wanted something cool so my grandchildren call me Papa G.
