May is National Electrical Safety Month. AEP Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) offers the following advice to be safe concerning electricity.

Check outlets that have loose fitting plugs, which can over heat and lead to a fire. Replace any missing or broken wall plates. Make sure cords are in good shape and not frayed or cracked. Check to see that extension cords are not overloaded.

Also make sure the plug fits the outlet. Check the wattage of all bulbs in lighting fixtures to make sure they are correct.

Be sure and remember water and electricity don't mix and keep metal ladders away from overhead wires and power lines.
