If you ever traveled Hwy 71 North to Fort Smith, Arkansas chances are you had to go through a small community name Witcherville. I don't know about you but every time I passed through this town I would get creepy vibes and with Halloween around the corner, it just seems even creepier.

Is this where witches live? Is there something sinister about this communities past we don't know? Well, listen up, according to the Sabastian County Historical Society, Witcherville was named after a local Postmaster Captain Williams James Witcher who established the farming community in 1850.  But did you know that the original name of this town was named Salem until 1875 when a post office was named Witcherville and remained active until 1926?

Witcher died in 1905 but the name remains and during the Halloween season it's not uncommon to see folks passing through stop at the Witcherville road sign to get a picture in the town with less than 200 people.
Here's how to get to Witcherville, according to Mapquest.
There was once a small community college called Buckner which now resides as Buckner Park. The college was founded in 1875 and operated until 1914. A Missionary Baptist preacher, Reverend E. L. Conupere founded the college and named it after Reverend William Buckner, a missionary to the Cherokee Indians.
Witcherville is located in what is called the Arkansas River Valley which is actually a very beautiful area cut through the mountain countryside. Maybe it just gets a bad rap because of its name but Witcherville is actually wicked in a very good way.
