I get excited when I hear about an air show because I love anything that has to do with aviation.  Have you heard that plans are underway for an air show in Texarkana in the summer of 2026 at the Texarkana Regional Airport?

According to a recent report in the Texarkana Gazette, Airport Executive Director Paul Mehrlich, and Aviation Director, Brandon Sanders at Texarkana College recently met with the Airport Authority Board about about bringing an air show to the twin cities. It's been about 30 years since the airport held an air show and this one would be in celebration of the airport's 100th anniversary. This air show would also be key in helping recruitment at Texarkana College for their aviation mechanics program that begins this fall.

Of course, there are a lot of hurdles that go into bringing an air show to the airport, first, you have to get permission from the FAA to close the runway.  But the good news is fundraising is now underway with the goal of $288,000. having a two-year plan will help in gathering the finances needed to bring in the air show.

There are also a ton of legal issues that have to be worked out but everyone so far seems to be on board with it. I believe having a credible air show in Texarkana can only boost the economy and would be good for the hotel business.

.According to Airport Executive Director Paul Mehrlich, the air show would be coordinated and operated by David Schultz Airshows from Clearfield, Pennsylvania. If this all comes together Texarkana can see its first air show in June 2026, we may have to wait a while but it will be worth the wait.

I love a good air show but most of the time I found myself traveling to another city to watch one so it would be nice to stay home for a change.
