Pleasant Grove Cheerleaders Bring Home The Big Silver State Trophy
Friday the 13th sure wasn't unlucky for one group from Texarkana as congratulations are in order for the Pleasant Grove High Cheerleaders who came in 2nd place in their division in the State of Texas UIL Championships.
When you think about how many schools there are in the Great State of Texas, the competition is tough. On Friday, January 13, the Pleasant Grove High School Cheerleaders placed 2nd in the 2023 UIL Spirit State Championship at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The teams were judged for their abilities in making the game day an engaging, exciting event. The squad competition consists of three categories: band dance, crowd leading, and fight song. In the preliminary round, each category is performed separately. Only the top 20 teams from each division (1A-6A) are selected to move on to the final round, which is the State Championship. There were 71 teams competing in the 4A Division II preliminary round, including PG.
The Pleasant Grove High School Cheerleaders finished in the top 20 in the preliminary round and earned their spot in the finals. When the finals competition was over and done, Pleasant Grove brought home silver. The Pleasant Grove ladies also placed 3rd overall in the 2022 UIL Spirit State Championship.
The team is coached by Shera Hopkins. Congratulations ladies and Coach Hopkins, Texarkana is proud of you all.
